Between the residence building and the hotel building at Shilla Monogram Gangneung,
there’s an outdoor food court area.
It’s called The Grove Table,
and because it’s in a separate building outside the hotel,
it’s perfect for a quick walk the moment you step out the main entrance.
At first, we thought we’d just
take care of everything inside the hotel, but once we actually looked around,
this spot had a much better atmosphere and more good food than I expected.

If you walk out from the main entrance of the Shilla Monogram Gangneung residence or hotel building,
it’s literally right next door, so getting there takes almost no time.
There’s no need to drive anywhere,
it’s directly across from the main entrance the second you walk out.
Even if you’re not staying at Shilla Monogram,
you can park and come just for a meal,
which makes it an easy stop during a Gangneung trip.
From Terarosa and great brunch spots to chimaek,
everything is gathered in one building, so you can handle meals,
snacks, late-night bites, and dessert café stops all in one place.
Not having to search around
or travel far was honestly one of the biggest perks.
Shilla Monogram Gangneung is a great hotel on its own,
but having this stylish food court
right outside the hotel is such a win.
Butter Villa; Italian restaurant
This seemed to be the most popular spot inside The Grove Table.
It was definitely busy.
Butter Villa is an Italian restaurant known for its wood-fired pizza,
pasta, and steak,
and the warm interior made it especially popular with families.
It felt like a great place for brunch or dinner,
and when we visited, there were plenty of
families dining with kids at the tables around us.
The pizza fresh out of the wood-fired oven looked like the signature order here.
Makocote; chicken, dakgangjeong, pasta, bar
At The Grove Table in Shilla Monogram Gangneung,
this is the place
where my family ended up eating.
Makocote had the feel of a restaurant-meets-bar,
with high ceilings and a seriously cool interior.
The menu at Makocote includes dakgangjeong, boneless fried chicken, pasta, and salads,
so there were a lot of families here too.
We ordered the original fried
chicken with house-made sauce trio,
plus one order of truffle French fries,
planning to enjoy it with beer,
and honestly, I wasn’t expecting that much.
The chicken was about $21,
so I figured, well, it’s a hotel area, of course it’s pricey—but wow.
The second I took a bite, I was genuinely surprised.
The coating was thin but incredibly crisp,
and it didn’t taste like ordinary fried chicken at all.
It comes with three sauces, and since they’re all house specials,
the flavors felt unique and definitely more elevated.
That said, the sauce lineup felt
more geared toward adults than kids.
Makocote at The Grove Table
is designed with a bar-style interior,
so I could totally see this being a great place
to come back for cocktails or drinks in the evening.
I still think about that chicken now.
The chicken was seriously incredible—and the portion was generous too.
Terarosa
Terarosa at Shilla Monogram Gangneung
was spacious and comfortable inside,
so if you’re staying at the hotel, I honestly don’t think you need to go out of your way
to visit another branch just for coffee.
I’m pretty sure it had a second floor too.
Breakfast at Shilla Monogram Gangneung has to be reserved after check-in
using the QR code on the paper they give you,
and the booking window opens at midnight the day before.
During peak season, if you miss that timing, it fills up immediately,
and we actually fell asleep that night
so when I tried to book it first thing the next morning,
it was already sold out.
I was so disappointed.
I’m still sad we missed breakfast at Shilla Monogram Gangneung,
but if you also miss the breakfast reservation,
I’d recommend checking out and heading to The Grove
Table instead for brunch.
The Grove Table at Shilla Monogram
didn’t offer any separate discount
for hotel guests, just in case you’re wondering.
So if you miss the breakfast booking window
like we did, don’t stress too much—
just take your time and go enjoy a meal at The Grove Table.
In the evening, I think a great plan would be
to swim at the hotel and then head to Makocote for chimaek.
