With my scalp looking redder and feeling tighter lately, a scalp spa visit
felt overdue, so I booked a soothing treatment
at Stay Beauty, a hair salon near Gangnam-gu Office Station in Seoul, South Korea.

I usually get professional care about every three weeks,
either at a hair salon or a specialist scalp-care center,
so it’s been a regular part of my routine.
After trying quite a few places, I’ve learned to spot
the difference between genuinely thorough care
and a treatment that just goes through the motions.
My verdict?
This place brings together the best of a specialist scalp-care center
and a full-service hair salon.

Inside Stay Beauty

Stay Beauty offers hair, nail,
lash, tanning, white tanning—a brightening light treatment—and skin services,
along with scalp care, all under one roof.
It’s a full-service beauty salon spanning roughly 2,850–3,200 square feet.

You can even get your hair and nails done at the same time,
which sounded perfect for fitting everything into a busy day.
They told me they use only authentic, name-brand products,
which helped me feel comfortable trusting them with my sensitive scalp.
The space is roomy, too,
so I could settle in without feeling cramped.
A Close-Up Scalp Assessment

First, they used a scalp camera
to take a careful look at its condition.
At one specialist scalp-care center I’d visited before,
they’d barely glanced at my scalp
before jumping straight into exfoliation.
I’ve also been to places that used harsh products
without considering my scalp type.

This time, they spotted some flaky buildup,
along with redness and dryness,
and chose products specifically formulated
for a sensitive scalp.
My Scalp Spa Treatment, Step by Step
Applying the exfoliating product, then using steam
to thoroughly soften the buildup
A hands-on massage to release tension in the scalp
What I really appreciated was that they didn’t just apply products
and leave the rest to a machine.
Throughout the treatment, they worked with their hands
to gently loosen tight tissue. It felt so good.

Removing buildup and residue with scalp-exfoliating swabs
Thorough cleansing with shampoo chosen for my scalp type
Another tension-releasing massage with a scalp gua sha tool
Some places rush through everything with machines,
but the careful, hands-on attention here
made this feel more like a relaxing visit to a day spa.
The scalp gua sha tool was one Yerim had bought herself and loves using,
and I could see why—it felt wonderfully refreshing.
A thorough rinse with adjustable water pressure at the shampoo station
At the shampoo station, they used a device
with several water-pressure settings
to help rinse away buildup and leftover product.
It left my scalp feeling cleaner than it ever does after washing at home,
so this turned out to be a surprisingly satisfying step.

A soothing scalp tonic, followed by a blowout
My whole head felt
noticeably lighter afterward.

At specialist scalp-care centers, I’d usually
give my hair a quick blow-dry myself before heading home.
Here, because it’s a hair salon,
they finished with a genuinely lovely blowout.

That makes it a great stop before an important outing:
you leave with a refreshed scalp
and beautifully styled hair.
They’re open every day from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.,
so an after-work visit or a weekend appointment—even on Sunday—
could fit nicely before your plans.
How Often Should You Get Professional Scalp Care?

Yerim said scalps prone to seborrheic dermatitis may need more frequent visits,
while a dry, sensitive scalp like mine
may do well with appointments spaced about three weeks apart.
That was her recommendation for me.
Since I find shampoo alone doesn’t always clear away all the buildup at home,
my plan is to leave the deeper exfoliation to the salon
and focus my daily routine
on moisture and soothing care.
My Honest Review

A healthy, comfortable scalp
is a good foundation for healthy, shiny hair,
so lately I’ve been paying more attention to my scalp than to my hair itself.
I’ve tried plenty of places,
but it had been a while since I’d experienced this much care
from the initial assessment through the hands-on treatment and final styling.
I’m planning to return
in about three weeks for my next session.
