In Gangneung, I wanted a place with great facilities
plus an ocean view, a pool, and a comfortable setup for traveling with a child
and enough space to really relax all in one place,
so I ended up choosing Shilla Monogram Gangneung Residence.

Honestly, the Shilla Monogram Gangneung Residence pool
was such a big draw that it was one of the main reasons I booked it.

When you travel with a child, picking the wrong hotel
can make the entire trip feel exhausting.

So I went through reviews and photos over and over
and compared everything really carefully.

Shilla Monogram Gangneung Residence Location

The property sits right in front of Anmok Beach,
so when you open the window, the East Sea is right there in front of you.

It’s also close to Chodang Tofu Village
and Gangneung’s major beaches, which made it easy to plan our route around the hotel.

Chodang Tofu Village was about a 5 to 7 minute drive away.

Honestly, I was already halfway sold just based on the location.

We didn’t have to drive far at all, and being able to handle so much on foot
nearby made a huge difference
when traveling with a child.

There are also restaurants and cafés
between the residence building and the hotel tower,
so you can take care of a lot without ever leaving the property.

Room – Deluxe Family Ocean View on the 19th Floor

The biggest reason I chose the residence
was the room layout.

It comes with one double bed and a sofa bed
that’s basically the size of another double, so a family of three can stay comfortably.

At another hotel in the past,
we had to squeeze an extra bed next to the main bed
and all three of us ended up crammed together,
but this time there was none of that.
We each had enough space and slept comfortably.

The Deluxe Family Ocean View room we stayed in
is designed for 3 guests, with a maximum occupancy of 3.

There’s also a Nespresso Vertuo machine, so I could make coffee in the room,
and the sink and microwave
made it really easy to prep kids’ snacks or heat up simple food.

When we didn’t feel like going back out,
we reheated food we bought from Jungang Market in the microwave
and that was one of those little conveniences that felt so worth it.
Having a sink was great too for washing fruit and other quick things.

This setup isn’t available in the hotel tower,
so if you’re doing a family trip with kids,
I really think the residence side is the better choice.

The in-room refrigerator is also on the larger side,
so it easily fit cake, bottles of alcohol,
and all kinds of food and snacks.

We were assigned the 19th floor,
and the ocean view was absolutely stunning.

Waking up in the morning and seeing sunlight pour in by the window
was such a nice way to start the day all three nights.

At night, turning off the lights and listening to the waves
was incredibly relaxing too.

The lighting was warm and thoughtfully designed,
and the mattress had that just-right medium firmness, so
I slept really well without any discomfort.

I usually have trouble sleeping on unfamiliar hotel beds when I travel,
but that wasn’t an issue here at all.

The bathroom has a bathtub, and overall cleanliness
was maintained really well, to the point that
I felt totally comfortable staying here with a child.

For in-room Wi-Fi, just connect to Shilla Free WIFI
and you can use it for free without a password.

Room service is not currently available,
but if you need extra towels or complimentary bottled water, just call the front desk.

They were pretty quick to respond,
so it never felt like a major inconvenience.

Disposable amenities like toothbrushes, razors, and shaving cream
are not provided, so definitely bring your own.

Tips

If possible, request a higher floor
because the difference in the view is significant.

If you get a high floor like we did on the 19th,
the open ocean view makes the stay feel much more special.

Also, since the room comes with a coffee machine, microwave, and sink,
it’s worth bringing simple food items
like kids’ snacks or cup noodles.

During our 3-night stay, this setup made our evenings
feel much more relaxed and easy.

Room cleaning is done sequentially after 3 PM,
so if you want a specific time,
it’s a good idea to request it in advance at the front desk.

Final Thoughts

If you’re planning a trip to Gangneung with a child,
Shilla Monogram Gangneung Residence
Deluxe Family Ocean View was a great-value
family room option.

I was especially happy with both the layout and the view.

From the bed setup to the kitchenette-style features to the ocean view,
it had everything a family of three really needs.
If I go back to Gangneung again,
I’d book this place again without much hesitation,
and I’d confidently recommend it to anyone looking for a kid-friendly stay.
