Osin Dwaeji Galbi Review: Best Galbi Near Dongdaemun DDP, Seoul

On a Sunday evening near Dongdaemun DDP,
I went to Osin Dwaeji Galbi, a great galbi spot for a family dinner,
and here’s my honest review.

Lately, if you walk around the alleys in Sindang-dong and the Dongdaemun area,
you’ll notice a lot of surprisingly cool cafés and great restaurants popping up.

Out of all of them, Osin Dwaeji Galbi is right by Dongdaemun DDP,
so if you’re ever in this neighborhood,
it’s absolutely worth checking out for galbi.

I went with my husband and our 9-year-old son,
and I came away thinking it works really well
both for a family meal with kids and for group gatherings.

Location & Restaurant Atmosphere

Osin Dwaeji Galbi Dongdaemun sits roughly between Sindang Station and Dongdaemun Station,
so it’s in a really convenient spot if you want to walk over
after visiting DDP.

It has that retro Korean outdoor dining vibe,
so it looked stylish from the outside, and there’s outdoor seating too.
If the weather isn’t too humid,
I think it would be such a nice place to eat outside in the evening.

There is a parking lot right behind the restaurant,
but it’s definitely not very spacious.

We had a 5:00 p.m. reservation on Sunday,
and the lot was already full,
so we used the tower-style Sindang Sageori Public Parking Lot about 3 minutes away.

Since we drive a hybrid,
we even got a 50% discount, which was a nice bonus.

The only inconvenience was that the restroom isn’t inside the restaurant,
so you have to step outside to use it.

As for timing,
around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday only a few tables were occupied,
so it felt relaxed at first,
but by 5:30 to 6:00 p.m., it was almost completely full.

If you like old-school retro interiors,
this is an easy meat spot to recommend.

If you want to avoid a wait on the weekend,
I’d recommend coming between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m.

Osin Dwaeji Galbi Menu

At this Dongdaemun DDP restaurant, the signature menu item at Osin Dwaeji Galbi
is the marinated pork galbi.

One big plus is that it comes partially grilled, so it cooks quickly at the table.

They also have other meat options like fresh galbi, fresh skirt meat, and beef brisket,
and you can also order Korean beef yukhoe (seasoned raw beef).

For mains and sides, there’s galbi jjageuli, soft tofu stew,
and shrimp doenjang jjigae, plus mul naengmyeon or bibim naengmyeon
if you want a refreshing finish.

Don’t skip the complimentary side dishes like the spicy marinated crab,
pickles, and seasoned cucumber.

Honestly, it’s rare for the crab at a galbi place
to be this good, but the marinated crab here was seriously delicious.

Also, the charcoal looked big and high quality.
The heat was strong, and I loved the charcoal from the start.

What We Ordered & How the Galbi Tasted

We started with 2 servings of marinated galbi,
shrimp doenjang jjigae, and two bowls of rice.

As we kept eating, the galbi was so good that we added one more serving,
and finished with bibim naengmyeon.

What stood out about Osin Dwaeji Galbi was that the marinated galbi

didn’t taste generic at all.
It wasn’t overly sweet or aggressive,
and grilled over strong charcoal, the smoky aroma and marinade came together beautifully.

I’m actually not usually a big fan of marinated galbi,

because the sweetness can feel like too much,
but here, instead of being sugary,
the marinade leaned more savory and helped cut any pork smell,
so it tasted noticeably different from other barbecue places.

And the marinated crab that came with it was a total rice thief.

It wasn’t too salty, but had this spicy, savory punch,
and the crab shell wasn’t too hard,
so it was easy and enjoyable to eat.

Even the side dishes like the cucumber salad and salad
weren’t too intense or too sweet,
so they paired really well with the marinated galbi.

Our son is still young,
and he usually doesn’t like sweet marinated bulgogi or galbi,
so he normally only eats plain meat,
but he kept saying this galbi was good and ate a lot of it.

My husband also said he wasn’t that hungry at first,
but before long he was completely devouring the galbi.

The bibim naengmyeon at Osin Dwaeji Galbi had a salty-savory sauce,
so it was a little bold,
but I’d recommend it if you don’t like bland naengmyeon.

After all that meat,
it was a great way to reset that rich, oily feeling in your mouth.

The shrimp doenjang jjigae had shrimp in it,
which gave it a clean, deep flavor.
Since the stew was nicely salty,
it was perfect with white rice and a piece of meat on top.

I actually wanted to try the galbi jjageuli,
but it was sold out that day, which was a little disappointing.
